Kilimo Tanzania Foundation (KTF)
Kilimo Tanzania Foundation (KTF) is an independent, non-governmental organization (NGO) registered in Tanzania on June 1st, 2023 (Registration No. 00NGO/R/4732, TIN 172-572-812). Established in 2021, KTF is driven by a commitment to alleviating poverty and hunger in rural Tanzania through sustainable agricultural development. We focus on empowering smallholder farmers including women, youth, and farming groups, representing approximately 80% of Tanzania’s agricultural sector – to increase productivity, incomes, and food security. We achieve this through the introduction and implementation of appropriate technologies, innovation and best practices.
KTF’s work is grounded in the understanding that agriculture is crucial to Tanzania’s economic growth and poverty reduction. While the sector contributes significantly to the national GDP and exports, challenges remain, including access to quality inputs (seeds, fertilizers), outdated farming techniques, and inadequate infrastructure (irrigation, transportation, market access)
KTF addresses these challenges by:
Promoting sustainable and ecologically sound agricultural practices: We champion organic and climate-smart farming methods that minimize environmental impact while maximizing yields and resilience. This includes promoting seed and food sovereignty, empowering farmers to control their seed sources and food systems.
Strengthening value chains: We work with public and private partners to improve market access, processing capabilities, and the overall efficiency of agricultural value chains.
Our Mission, Vision & Motto
To empower individual and small-scale farmers in Tanzania, enabling them to influence development policies and promote ecological agriculture (Agroecology) through capacity building, farmer-led research, advocacy, and networking.
To nurture sustainable and viable agriculture practices of individuals and groups of small-scale farmers and the general public and ensure Tanzanians benefit from thriving agribusiness.
Investing in people to build a thriving Tanzania tomorrow.
A better you, A better Me, A better Tomorrow
Community centered: Our work is community centered and driven for sustainability.
Innovation (Invention): Innovation is central to addressing today’s environmental and socioeconomic challenges. Through innovation, we transform challenges into opportunities, unlocking new pathways for environmental protection, food security, and poverty reduction.
Partnership: We acknowledge that we cannot do much alone. We partner with other like-minded people and shareholders
Accountability: At KTF, accountability is the backbone of our credibility and impact
Passion: We are driven by a deep commitment to make change
Excellence: Excellence drives us to go beyond minimum standards and deliver high quality, sustainable solutions.
Contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Our work directly contributes to SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), with significant impact also on SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 13 (Climate Action). These efforts indirectly support numerous other SDGs.
KTF’s success relies on the collaborative efforts of individuals and organizations committed to empowering rural Tanzanians. Together, we strive to build a more sustainable and equitable future for all.
Kilimo Tanzania Foundation works in places where many other organizations are either unable or unwilling to go, because we believe we have a part to play in creating a more just and equitable world.
Our team is composed of people who have come from both the Government and Private sector, from the humanitarian sector and the business sector.
We believe that everyone has a contribution to make toward ending extreme poverty, and that we should be using our resources to do just that.
Kilimo Tanzania Foundation ’s contribution toward ending extreme poverty is centred in areas that are likely to be the last hold-outs for lasting change as the world pushes toward ending this atrocity in our lifetime.
We believe that the best way to solve a problem like extreme poverty is to come alongside a community and work together with them for a solution—the best solutions emerge from resourceful local people, and Kilimo Tanzania Foundation works to unleash that knowledge so farmers and their families can live a life of opportunity and purpose.
We envision a future for these communities where young people won’t remember a time when their community lived in poverty. Together, we can make that future a reality, and cultivate lasting meaningful choices in the most vulnerable and marginalized communities in Tanzania.
